How long have you been performing on stage?
I've been performing since seventh grade when i started taking musical theatre classes at my middle school. Ever since then I've been hooked.
What was your first show with Yorba Linda Spotlight?
My first show was Into the Woods last summer. I was so happy when i found out that Spotlight was producing this show and immediately jumped at the chance to do it. It was a wonderful and challenging show and a fantastic way to kick off my introduction to Yorba Linda Spotlight.
Why do you like performing in shows with Yorba Linda Spotlight?
I really appreciate the direction that I've been given at Yorba Linda Spotlight. I feel like I've grown so much as a performer due to the extremely helpful feedback provided by my directors. I love going to rehearsals and being part of the Spotlight family. I've met so many amazing people formed so many new friendships that are now so important to me in my life.
What is your dream role?
My dream role WAS Millie. When I was casted in her part for Yorba Linda Spotlight's current show, I nearly died of happiness. However, two other parts that I would also love to have under my belt are Christine in The Phantom of the Opera and Ariel in the Little Mermaid. They are extremely different characters but both of them have the most amazing songs and have been favorites of mine for years.
Why should people come see the upcoming production of "Thoroughly Modern Millie"?
This show truly has something for everyone. It's jam packed with comedy, amazing solos and ensemble numbers, and a hilarious plot line that will keep audiences completely entertained until the very end. It is such a fun and upbeat show and I guarantee audiences will leave the theatre with a smile on their faces.
Ariana as Cinderella in Spotlight's 2010 production of Into the Woods |
Although Thoroughly Modern Millie is still in the rehearsing process and has yet to be performed on stage, I can already tell that Millie is definitely the best role I've ever played in a musical. Her character is dynamic, her songs are show stopping and so much fun to perform, and I enjoy every minute of being her. Rehearsals have been a blast and I can't wait to truly bring her character to life on stage.
Has Spotlight helped you grow as a performer? If so, how?
Absolutely! I feel like I've improved in so many aspects, especially acting. That was the part that I was always the most nervous about since acting is definitely not my strong suit. However, I am now at the point where I feel so much more comfortable trying new things with my character and not feeling as nervous about whether or not I look silly or ridiculous because I know I have the guidance of my directors to point me in the right direction.
What do you like to do when you're not performing?
I love to read, chill with my friends, shop (definitely an obsession), listen to music (show tunes in general), write, and go to the gym.
If you could choose a show for Spotlight to produce, what would it be and why?
I would love to do the Little Mermaid! That movie has been a favorite of mine from the first time I watched it and I've always had a not-so-secret wish to be Ariel. She was my hero when I was younger and I would love to portray such a wonderful and iconic Disney character.
Ariana as Ariel Moore in Spotlight's 2011 production of Footloose |
My strongest trait would probably be my ability to take direction. I try to listen and emulate the director's vision the best I can. My weakest trait is my acting. Acting is definitely not my strong suit and it's been a challenge for me to portray a character well. I've always been more of a singer than an actress. Although I feel as though I've improved this past year in my acting abilities, I still feel as though I have so much more room to grow as an actress.
Of Spotlight's past shows, which has been your favorite and why?
Of the two shows I've actually performed on stage, I would have to say that Footloose was probably my favorite. I didn't expect to enjoy it as much as I did, but the script was full of 80's fun and audiences really seemed to enjoy it. We had a great cast and it was a great experience getting to know and perform with such talented and wonderful people.
